Criminal Court Cases in Adams County
Adams County Superior Court hears felony prosecutions. Its court and County Clerk are at 210 W Broadway Avenue in Ritzville, and the Clerk maintains the Superior Court criminal file. Adams County District Court has counters in Ritzville and Othello for misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, warrants, and other limited-jurisdiction work. Othello Municipal Court holds its own qualifying city-code, misdemeanor, and traffic files. The county reports that seven of every eight nonparking filings begin in District Court, so the lower-court channel is often the practical first stop.
A Superior Court session held at the Othello location does not turn the file into an Othello District Court record. The County Clerk remains its custodian. Likewise, an officer report does not migrate into the court file when charges are filed. Court pleadings and docket entries belong with the court, while the narrative, photographs, audio, and video remain with the investigating agency.

None of these substitutes for a clerk-certified document.
Odyssey public access is useful for party and case information, but anonymous users do not receive court documents. Registered access is role-dependent, and copies still follow county rules. Adams Court Copies and Fees
District Court requires its signed GR 31 request form for limited-jurisdiction copies. Staff will not conduct the search, and the case number is mandatory. The form asks for the defendant, division, requested document, certification choice, and mail, email, or pickup delivery. Do not send payment with the request. Staff checks availability and issues an invoice.

Superior Court uses the County Clerk schedule. Its published fees include $0.50 per reproduced page, $5 for the first certified page and $1 for each added page, plus $30 per hour for record searches or special written reports. Advance payment may be required. Ask which charge applies before ordering a large file.
What a Criminal Case File Contains
A case file records what the prosecutor filed and what the court did. It does not prove that every initial arrest allegation became a charge. Read the charging paper alongside the final judgment and docket. That pairing shows whether a count was amended, dismissed, resolved by plea, tried, or left pending.

Older Adams Criminal Dockets
Technology dates explain gaps. Adams County Superior Court began SCOMIS in 1985, entered JIS in 1995, and moved to Odyssey on June 4, 2018. A case older than the active portal, or one changed during migration, may need clerk research. A negative online result is not proof that the court never had a file.
Exact entry also matters. Odyssey permits Party Name, Business Name, Nickname, and Sounds Like searches, but inactive, removed, or dismissed parties may be hard to locate without the case number. The result columns show case number, file date, type, location, and party name. Use those fields to verify that a similar name belongs to the right Adams County case before ordering copies.
Criminal Case Stages in Adams County
The filed case begins after the prosecutor makes a charging decision. An arrest or summons may come first, followed by a prompt appearance. At arraignment, the judge states the charges and rights and takes a plea. Pretrial work can include motions, discovery, and plea talks. A plea or trial leads to disposition, and a conviction proceeds to sentencing. Appeals, supervision, vacation motions, or later sealing requests may add entries long after the main case ends.

JIS-Link Is a Different Layer
JIS-Link is not needed for an ordinary one-case lookup. It is a registered, fee-based display service. Washington Courts publishes a $200 nonrefundable setup charge, a $13 monthly minimum, and $0.145 per transaction. The service displays information but does not make the screen an official court record.

When an Adams Party Search Misses
First, check spelling, nickname choices, filing dates, and court level. Next, use the statewide index to identify the court of record. If the party became inactive or was dismissed, ask the clerk to locate the known case number rather than expecting staff to run a broad name search. For a Superior Court matter heard in Othello, contact the County Clerk in Ritzville because the hearing location does not change custody of the file.
If the source record itself is wrong, begin with the court. Obtain the corrected entry or certified disposition, then use Washington State Patrol review and challenge procedures if WASIS or WATCH still carries an outdated outcome. Correcting only a compiled search product cannot rewrite the clerk’s source document.
Access Rules for Case Records
General Rule 31 governs public access to Washington court records. It calls for reasonable access while protecting restricted information. That route differs from the Washington Public Records Act process used for Sheriff and police agency files. Send a case-document request to the court of record, not to the county’s general NextRequest portal.
Sealed cases, juvenile matters, protected victim information, financial account data, Social Security numbers, and other confidential fields may be withheld or redacted. Online views can be narrower than the official file. A missing portal result can also reflect an old case, a nonstandard number, migration, or a party-search limitation. Ask the clerk about access without assuming the record was erased.
A federal prosecution is outside the Adams County portals. Adams County lies in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, whose docket must be checked through federal court channels rather than Odyssey or re:SearchWA.
Public does not mean unrestricted: GR 31 controls court access, while chapter 10.97 RCW limits dissemination of nonconviction criminal-history data held outside the case file.
